Visual Metaphors

Posted at 12:41 pm under Uncategorized

1. Eating too much candy makes you sick. Just like poluting the environment.

2. Earth now.  Earth warmed. (blow torch it)

3. Ice cubes in a drink.  Show them being warmed, microwave possibly. (could represent ice caps)

4. Show death valley.  Imagine if the world looks like it.

5. Show a cookie. Then pour milk over it and say this is what happens when the oceans rise.

I think the most effective would be the ice cubes on a drink and show what that looks like.  (Symbolizes the ice caps on the ocean).  Then heat the drink and melt the ice and show what the ice melting does do the world.

I like the ice cube metaphor, too–it seems the easiest to do and also effective in its meaning. Where in the documentary would this go (which segment)?

#2: do you have an earth to blow torch? Safety first!

#3: could you shoot this image stop gap style–not a real time melting, but a sped-up version in which you take pictures at intervals?

#4: do you have pictures of Death Valley?

#5: cookie with milk. . . cool visual effect, but cookie? Could you put little plastic people or cardboard to represent an island that gets consumed by rising water?

    Cool ideas!

I like number five the most because that’s a really good way to represent rising sea levels. I agree with Ms. P that maybe we should put some people there the cookie.

I do have an earth to blow torch. Yes, i think it would be a good idea to to a stop-ap style. No, i dont have pictures of death valley, but I think we could find some on Google. Ya, I guess we could use cardboard. I just wanted to do something like that but I couldnt think of what to do, so I used a cookie. I think it could go in the effects portion.
